Clarkson House is a 24-bed hostel and administrative centre offering short and long term accommodation for single homeless people, who come from a range of backgrounds and have various needs.

Our clients include:

  • people who have financial problems
  • people fleeing domestic violence
  • people recovering from a family breakdown
  • people recovering from drug and alcohol abuse
  • young people leaving the care system
  • people who have been sexual abused
  • ex-offenders
  • and those with simply nowhere else to go.

Clarkson House is situated within Octavia View, a ‘community hub’ situated in a beautiful Grade II listed building in the centre of Wisbech. People can stay in Clarkson House for up to six months before moving on. Ferry Project has additional accommodation in the area, so that when residents are ready they can move on to a shared flat or bedsit if they want to.

“If you give people beauty, they respond to it.  What we’ve found is that by giving people this wonderful environment to live in, they’ve responded.”
Keith Smith, Director Ferry Project

Support

In Clarkson House support is available 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. While living at the hostel, the residents learn a variety of skills to help them live more successfully in their own accommodation and they receive the love and support they need to help them manage their support requirements.

During the time people are with us, we help them consider their future and the options they have available to them. We work with a range of partners to help the residents get back into their own home, and provide education courses and volunteering opportunities to help people develop their work related skills and hopefully get employment.

Facilities

Each room is unique with en-suite facilities. Clarkson House has shared kitchen facilities where we teach clients how to cook. Other facilities include a training and technology room, a dinning area and a shared communal lounge.

Positive Outcomes

In 2014-15, Clarkson House provided 7,858 nights of accommodation, averaging 21.5 clients per night, and 86% of our clients moved on successfully.
