World Wellbeing Week 2025
World Wellbeing Week gives us the opportunity to consider the importance of wellbeing as a way to find balance and rest in the midst of our hectic lives. Wellbeing is an important part of the work we do at the Ferry Project, giving our clients ways to take care of their bodies and minds as they journey from homelessness to independence.
A homeless person is almost always in a state of crisis. Every support network in their life has failed them, and they must fend for themselves to survive. The Ferry Project provides the homeless not only with shelter and security, but with opportunities to improve every aspect of their lives, from education to health, overcoming addiction to managing finances. Helping our clients to find wellbeing on their journey can hugely benefit their mental health and the likelihood of them successfully achieving a stable and independent lifestyle.
We are so grateful to our staff and partner organisations who support our clients to improve their wellbeing, and we are very proud of our clients for seeking this improvement by engaging with the various activities we provide for them. We hope these examples inspire you to introduce meaningful ways to pursue wellbeing in your own life.
What does the Ferry Project do to help promote wellbeing?
- We provide two weekly sessions at Ferry Project Cookery School, where our clients can learn to enjoy the art of cooking and baking, gaining new skills while building relationships and enjoying delicious food
- Clients attend a weekly Wellbeing Walk where they can enjoy the outdoors together; a great opportunity for exercise, conversation and laughter
- We arrange cultural activities, such as talks about local history, visits to nearby landmarks, and trips to the zoo
- We have recently redeveloped our garden area and provide clients with opportunities for them to take part in gardening activities
- We spend time together, enjoying games of Bingo, drinking coffee out on the plaza, making arts and crafts, and sharing meals together
- We make sure our clients know that there is always someone they can chat to
There are so many creative ways to find wellbeing through a full and balanced life, and we feel passionately about providing opportunities for this to our clients as they make their way out of homelessness.
We hope you can find moments of peace and joy this World Wellbeing Week, and remember that time spent focusing on your wellbeing is never wasted.
