Mick's Story

Hi, I’m Mick*. My journey out of homelessness was quite rocky. When I was a teenager, my Dad died. My mum then started dating a sex offender. After a few years they moved to Norwich, and I ended up getting into drugs and losing my job. My friend let me stay on his sofa, but after a few weeks he brought me to the Ferry Project to get help.

It was hard work. I missed a lot of keywork sessions, let my room get really dirty, and almost got evicted. I owed a couple of hundred quid to a drug dealer because I was smoking a few joints a day, so I couldn't pay my service charge. But the Ferry team kept believing in me.

They got some funding to help me pay off my service charge debt, and got me a fresh start in a new room. I moved out of Ferry and now live at my girlfriend’s mum’s house. I’m working as a forklift driver and feel hopeful for the future.
